Indwell opened Ottawa Street Apartments in Hamilton in 2022—but it almost didn’t happen. It seems clear that God worked to make it happen.
In December 2020, Indwell’s proposed project on Ottawa Street North was “dead.” Funding had been mostly secured, but the owner had legal issues that prevented them from closing the deal. Because the funding was time sensitive, and Indwell’s purchase couldn’t close in time, the funding was reallocated to another (Indwell) project. A group of people from the Greater Ontario House of Prayer (GOHOP) intentionally prayed for the building, and they walked around the building while praying for it seven times, like the Israelites did around Jericho.
Within two days of GOHOP’s prayer walk, Indwell received two phone calls about one hour apart. The first call was an offer of a new, higher amount of funding for development if we could close the purchase. The second call was from the owner’s realtor, confirming their legal issues were resolved, meaning Indwell could purchase the site. Construction and retrofit was underway within a matter of months and the Ottawa Street Apartments are now affordable supportive homes for 12 people.
We recognize that all good things come from God. Starting any project with prayer is essential.
